Mover License Check — Verify Before You Book
Rogue movers are the #1 source of moving complaints. Run this checklist before signing anything: your state's license lookup, the FMCSA USDOT check for interstate moves, insurance proof, a written estimate, and complaint history.
This checklist adapts to Texas's rules. Interstate moves always fall under FMCSA — the USDOT check applies no matter where you move from.
Mover verification checklist

- Texas license check — A license is required for intrastate moves. Look it up at https://www.txdmv.gov/motor-carriers/truck-stop (TxDMV).
- Interstate (cross-state) check — Every interstate mover needs a USDOT number and FMCSA authority. Verify at safer.fmcsa.gov — it shows insurance status and complaint history.
- Insurance verification — Ask for the mover's cargo and liability insurance certificates. Interstate carriers must maintain FMCSA-minimum coverage.
- Written estimate before loading — Binding or non-binding, in writing, signed by the mover — before anything is loaded. A 'rate quote' is not an estimate.
- Bill of Lading + inventory — You must get a Bill of Lading (the contract) and a signed inventory of your goods before the truck leaves.
